Bad Breath Halitosis
Bad breath is a problem that is
shared by millions of people across the country. Bad breath, medically called
halitosis, can result from poor oral hygiene habits and may be a sign of other
health problems. Halitosis (bad breath) is, in the main, caused by sulphur-producing
bacteria that normally live within the surface of the tongue and in the throat. |
Bad breath tends to be noticed
by other people first, and it may be difficult for them to tell you that you
have it without embarrassing them or you. Bad breath that won’t go away can
also be a sign of a medical problem, such as a sinus infection or gum disease
(gingivitis).
Many of us would have suffered
from bad breath at some point in our lives. Bad breath is not contagious,
meaning you cannot catch it from someone else. Oral hygiene helps to prevent
the build-up of the bacteria that forms on your teeth, tongue and gums that
causes bad breath. Until recently, there really has not been an effective
scientific approach to diagnosing and treating bad breath or chronic halitosis
conditions. This website is all about the proven treatment of halitosis and bad
breath as well as products to help solve halitosis issues.
Halitosis
Halitosis is not a problem by
itself, but it can cause concerns in our interpersonal relationships. A white
or yellow film on the tongue is a very common observation we see in halitosis
sufferers. If you have heavy amounts of these yellow or white films there is a
good chance you may have halitosis. Many different things can cause halitosis
from not brushing your teeth to certain medical conditions. Mouthwashes, when
used in conjunction with a regimen of effective tongue cleaning, tooth brushing,
and flossing, can play a role in the treatment of bad breath (halitosis).
Treatment for Bad Breath
To get a comprehensive bad
breath cure it may be wise to combine traditional and modern methods, and of
course always to consult the dentist about any treatment before starting it.
Mouthwash seems to be the preferred method of treatment for most people with bad
breath, although most doctors say the battle against bad breath can't be won
with a gargle. It is recommended to achieve fresh breath by avoiding your
proteins, having good healthy gums, and cleaning your tongue. There is now a
treatment in the form of a powder and chewable tablets that give bad breath
patients a dose of "good" bacteria. The treatment will depend on what is
causing the problem however.
Chemical antiseptics were a
logical step in the development of a halitosis treatment, and they are still
widely used today. Halitosis home remedy treatments are quite effective as
well. Other good herbal treatments for gum disease include bloodroot, caraway,
Echinacea, sage oil, peppermint, menthol, and myrrh. Be sure to browse through
our extensive halitosis resources and products on this site to assist in solving
your bad breath problems and achieving the freshness you and your love ones have
been searching for.
